New arrangements for referring cases to Access to Care
08 May 2008
Until now, referrals into Access to Care have been via the telephone, fax or e-mail. Wiltshire Medical Services have been aware of the frustrations some of these methods have caused and we have been working for several months to try and produce an easier method. The new method utilises a web-based referral form and believe this development represents a real advance both in terms of ease of use and improved clinical governance.
This project has been commissioned by Wiltshire Medical Services from a local company, Quicksilva and has been designed to be fully integrated with Adastra, the supplier of the Access to Care software.
Essentially, when a clinician wishes to make a referral into Access to Care, they, or their deputy, will fill in a form accessed via a website, which is then submitted to Access to Care. The contents of the form are then assimilated into the Adastra software.
It is only possible to make a referral from a PC connected to the N3 network (i.e. an NHS site) and the server handling all this traffic is the same one that runs Access to Care. The end result is a system that satisfies all the criteria in terms of patient confidentiality and information governance.
